United-sponsored event touts benefits of walking

The UnitedHealthcare-sponsored “WeWhoWalk” tour recently made its 16th stop in Providence to raise awareness of the healthful benefits of regular walking.
The tour journeys to 50 state capitols over 50 weeks with community leaders and local residents at each walk. The event was developed by WalkStyles CEO Sue Parks, a designer and marketer of services for people who want healthier lifestyles.
WalkStyles launched a free social networking Web site that helps walkers, hikers and joggers connect with one another to form walking clubs, communicate on health topics, gain information on healthy lifestyles, and monitor their own progress through the DashTrak Wellness System that encourages 10,000 steps per day for optimal health.
First Lady of Rhode Island Susan Carcieri joined Sue Parks on the walk. Gov. Donald L. Carcieri welcomed the walkers along with Stephen Farrell, CEO of UnitedHealthcare of New England, and Lt. Gov. Elizabeth Roberts. •
