UnitedHealthcare of New England recently donated $50,000 to the Rhode Island Chronic Care Collaborative, an effort that assists providers to practice different ways of managing patients with chronic diseases.
UnitedHealth Group (NYSE:UNH), the parent of UnitedHealthcare New England, provides managed health care and services to 70 million individuals nationwide.
The donation is the recommendation of the company’s Quality and Technology Investment Advisory Committee. The advisory committee consists of local community leaders chosen based on experience, skills and commitment, with consideration to diverse sectors of the city and state. The committee guides and participates in the selection and monitoring of community health care, technology, and quality initiatives for UnitedHealthcare. Organizations and recipients are chosen based on value to the providers, employers and consumers of Rhode Island’s health care system.
The Chronic Care Collaborative’s main focus is on diabetes care, but all provider training can be transferred to management of any other chronic condition, as well as preventive medicine issues such as pap smears, mammograms and immunizations. •
