The new inventory-management tool is designed to help restaurants better track food costs on hundreds of items, which can account for 28 percent to 35 percent of gross sales and ultimately impact profitability, Upserve said. With inventory often tracked via paper and pen, automating the process saves time and reduces the chance of human error.

“We know our costs of sales in real time for each recipe” with Upserve Inventory, said Brian Reeder of Vessel Kitchen in Park City, Utah. “I can see if a supplier has changed prices and that is essential to our success.”

According to Upserve, in addition to streamlining back-of-house operations, helping to control food costs and increasing profits, Upserve Inventory can also help reduce waste, manage multiple restaurants via a central online kitchen and help establishments to source local vendors.

Headquartered in Providence, Upserve has additional offices in New York and San Francisco.

SimpleOrder was founded in 2012 in Tel Aviv, Israel.
