URI Foundation appoints four to executive board

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – The University of Rhode Island Foundation, the university’s charitable fundraising arm, has appointed four new members to its executive board. They are URI alumni and will serve a three-year term.
Lorne Adrain, Class of 1976, owns an insurance practice that serves entrepreneurs and businesses across the country. He is co-founder of Social Venture Partners of Rhode Island. He also founded KindMark, a leader in the creation of software technologies that advance philanthropy.
Phillip Kydd, Class of 1981, is the acting deputy director of the R.I. Department of Transportation. He has managed contract awards exceeding $1 billion, and established the $12 million Transportation Center of Excellence at URI.
Margaret Leinen, Class of 1980, is the founder of the Climate Response Fund and is a former dean of the URI Graduate School of Oceanography. Leinen served with the U.S. National Science Foundation from 2000 to 2007. She is chairwoman of the Atmospheric and Hydrologic Sciences section of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Charles Wharton, Class of 1967, serves as first vice president of investments and financial adviser with Merrill Lynch. He previously served as senior vice president of investments with UBS Financial Services Inc. •
