URI to host financial service symposium

PROVIDENCE – The University of Rhode Island’s College of Business Administration will host the 2009 Financial Services Symposium on April 7 at the R.I. Convention Center.
Open to the public, the symposium will examine the financial services industry’s role in Rhode Island’s economy. Participants also will discuss significant industry trends and address “Fueling the Financial Services Engine,” this year’s theme.
The event will serve as a forum for members of academia, the business community and government to form partnerships that will develop and sustain the industry’s long-term growth.
The event will begin with registration at 7:45 a.m., followed by opening remarks at 8 a.m. from Gov. Donald L. Carcieri, URI President Robert Carothers and URI Business Administration Dean Mark Higgins.
The morning’s keynote speaker will be Steven Gresham, senior vice president of Fidelity Investments. The afternoon’s keynote speaker will be Martin Gruenberg, vice chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. There will also be two roundtable discussions involving company executives, economic policy advisers, community business leaders, government regulators and others throughout the morning. Tickets are $50 prior to April 6 at noon, or $60 at the door. Registration includes lunch and refreshments.
Registration information and the day’s schedule are available at www.cba.uri.edu/fss, or call the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce at (401) 521-5000 for information.
