PROVIDENCE – Vestas 11th Hour Racing finished fifth in the Cardiff, Wales, in-port race, the Volvo Ocean Race announced Friday.

The team began the race too close to the start line, was pushed over the line early and fell to last. The team ended up pushing back to fifth by the end of the race, earning 3 in-port race points.

Dongfeng Race Team won the in-port race.

The team is now in firth overall in the in-port race series standings, which are used in the case of a tie in the global ocean race.

In the overall race, Vestas 11th Hour is also in fifth place with 36 points. Dongfeng Race Team is in first with 60 points, followed closely by MAPFRE with 59 points.

MAPFRE leads in in-port race points, which could potentially come into play as the race edges toward its close in the Hague with such a tight leaderboard.

The teams will depart from Cardiff Sunday, toward Gothenburg, Sweden.
