VNA of Rhode Island, one of the state’s oldest home care and hospice providers, was founded in 1900 to help the poor with health services, and had in recent times grown to provide services to people of all ages and incomes.
Nicholas Oliver, executive director of the Rhode Island Partnership for Home Care, has attributed the organization’s demise to Gov. Gina M. Raimondo’s fiscal 2017 budget, which included a 7 percent increase in Medicaid funds to increase care workers’ compensation but did not include reimbursements for health care services in the homes of the state’s Medicaid population.
“They had been providing patients with exceptional clinical care in their homes for over a century. It’s very unfortunate that the business has been closed,” said Richard Land, Court Receiver for VNA of Rhode Island.
The auction will feature more than 500 lots for sale, including more than 150 laptops and tablets, some still new, in the box, servers, printers and office equipment. There will also be two rare 1905 original oil on canvas paintings by renowned artist JJ Shannon that were donated to VNA when it started on the East Side of Providence as well as century-old memorabilia.
