Washington Trust Bancorp elects 4
to board of directors

WESTERLY – Four members of the board of directors of Washington Trust Bancorp Inc. were elected at the company’s recent annual shareholders meetings.

The event was highlighted by the retirement of Victor J. Orsinger II, who retired after serving for 36 years on the board. John T. Ruggieri, vice president and chief financial officer of Providence-based construction firm Gilbane Building Co., has filled Orsinger’s seat on the board.

Filling the other three seats for terms ending in 2022 are Edward O. Handy III, board chairman and CEO of Washington Trust Bancorp and its subsidiary The Washington Trust Co.; Katherine W. Hoxsie, a certified public accountant and retired vice president of Ray Hoxsie Buick-Pontiac-GMC Truck Inc.; and Kathleen E. McKeough, retired senior vice president of human resources at GTECH Holdings Corp.

Orsinger joined the Washington Trust board in 1983 and served on nearly all of the board’s committees, including serving as lead director since 2002. He was a partner in the law firm of Orsinger & Nardone from 1985 through 2011.

McKeough will take Orsinger’s place as the board’s lead director. Ruggieri, meanwhile, will serve on the board’s audit and finance committee, the company said.

During the meeting, shareholders also ratified the selection of Crowe LLP as the company’s independent public accounting firm and approved a nonbinding resolution for compensation of the company’s executive officers.
