appoint new branch managers

PROVIDENCE – The Washington Trust Co. has appointed Marcus Charlemagne as assistant vice president and branch manager for the new Washington Trust branch set to open in January in North Providence.

Charlemagne has more than 18 years of banking experience. The Smithfield resident joined Washington Trust in 2015 as assistant vice president and manager of the bank’s branch in North Kingstown. Before that, he held positions as branch manager, assistant branch manager and senior business banker for various banks throughout northern Rhode Island. He holds an associate degree in accounting and finance from the New England College of Business.

In his new job, Charlemagne will be responsible for managing the daily operations at the new North Providence branch at 1588 Mineral Spring Ave., growing the deposit base and maintaining the bank’s active role in the North Providence community.

Meanwhile, Middletown-based BankNewport has named Erin Mallo as vice president and branch sales manager for its new Providence branch set to open in November in Wayland Square.

In her new job, Mallo will be responsible for branch operations, business development and staff development at the new Providence branch at 5 South Angell St.

Before joining BankNewport, Mallo worked for Bank of America as assistant vice president and financial center manager in its Providence office. She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Rhode Island College in Providence. She resides in East Providence.
