WESTERLY – Westerly Community Credit Union will award five scholarships totaling $4,500 to students at certain southern Rhode Island high schools during the 2018-19 academic year.
Eligible schools include Chariho, Exeter-West Greenwich, Narragansett, Prout, South Kingstown, Stonington, Westerly and Wheeler. Four of the scholarships are designated for college-bound graduating seniors, and one is for a graduating senior planning to attend vocational school or training, the credit union announced.
The credit union is offering three college scholarships and a vocational scholarship of $1,000 each. In addition, the credit union will award $500 through the Cooperative Credit Union Association College Scholarship Program. The deadline to apply is March 15.
The three college scholarships will be awarded to graduating high school seniors majoring in any area of study at a two-year or four-year college or university. The three scholarships are Joseph N. Cugini College Scholarship, named after the credit union’s former president, CEO and chairman; the Robert M. Bewlay Memorial College Scholarship, named after the credit union’s longtime vice president; and the Westerly Community Credit Union College Scholarship.
The Westerly Community Credit Union Vocational Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating high school senior who plans to attend a locally recognized vocation credentialed certificate program.
For the $500 award, the credit union will submit three finalists for consideration by the Cooperative Credit Union Association.
