WJAR’s two competitors also have sections of their Web sites that showcase their videos. WPRI-TV (CBS 12) collects its content at wpri.com/subindex/video, while WLNE-TV (ABC 6) posts its material at abc6.com/home/ondemand/video.
Like other news outlets, local television stations are still figuring out how to make the best use of their material online. There is no doubt that the appetite among viewers for Web video is growing, however.
A report released in June by the Pew Internet & American Life Project found that 62 percent of adult Internet users in the U.S. watched a video online in April, compared with just 33 percent three years earlier.
The Kelsey Group, a research firm, has estimated that advertising revenue from local online video will grow from $10.9 million in 2007 to $1.5 billion by 2012.
