Women’s Resource Center elects new board members at annual meeting

PROVIDENCE – The Women’s Resource Center, the nonprofit domestic violence and prevention services agency serving Newport and Bristol counties, elected new officials to its board of directors during its annual meeting on Oct. 25.

Making up the board’s executive committee, the following people were appointed to one-year terms: Nicole J. Benjamin, an attorney with Adler Pollock & Sheehan PC in Providence, will serve as board president; Mary C. Johnstone, a lead volunteer at Child & Family in Middletown and an adviser on the Rhode Island Foundation Newport County Fund, will serve as board vice president; Bryan H. Dunphy, a financial adviser with Edward Jones in Bristol, will serve as board treasurer; and Kerri Bruneau, a certified medical coder for the U.S. Navy, will serve as board secretary.

Three-year board terms were granted to Daniel Baker, a teacher at St. Philomena School in Portsmouth; Trudy Coleman; Amy Parks, vice president of strategy at Merkle Response Management Group; and Dr. Nathan Tillman, owner of Family and Cosmetic Dentistry in Newport.

In addition, the group’s Champion Award was presented to the R.I. Department of Health in recognition of its support of the Newport Health Equity Zone project and for its support of the WRC cause. The department’s health director, Dr. Nicole Alexander-Scott, accepted the award.

The WRC Community Partnership Award was granted to the Aquidneck Community Table, which seeks to build a new food system for residents. It was accepted by Executive Director Bevan Linsley.

Kimberly Raunch, director of RI Works at the R.I. Department of Human Services, was given the Empowerment Award, which is presented to an individual who helps the WRC better serve its clients.
