PROVIDENCE – A request to change the zoning for several lots involving the redevelopment of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church is before the Providence City Council.

The project by Providence-based The Omni Group would create a mixed-use residential project around the historic church, which opened in 1925 but has been closed for several years.

The ordinance introduced to the City Council this week would change the zoning in the surrounding lots from residential R4 to C-2, a commercial designation that would allow a mix of residential and commercial uses.
