BankFive and WSAR-AM 1480 have selected Fall River native Carl Garcia as the 158th Hometown Hero. Garcia was presented with the award in an event held at his business, Carl’s Collision. He was chosen for his dedication to the community as a volunteer and benefactor.
“A successful entrepreneur, Mr. Garcia has been able to give so much to the citizens of Fall River and the South Coast,” said Thomas F. Lyons, president and CEO of BankFive. “His tireless efforts are an inspiration to all, and his willingness to help others has been a great influence to those around him.”
Garcia, in spite of his limited time, has participated in the “Recycled Rides” vehicle-donation program, in addition to teaching students from local vocational schools through internship programs.
“For me, charity is rooted in helping others who may otherwise not be able to help themselves,” said Garcia. “I try to make a difference, hoping that if I help someone, that person might be able to help someone else.”
The Hometown Hero Award was established in 1993 by BankFive in cooperation with radio station WSAR-AM to recognize individuals for volunteerism and selfless. &#8226
