
PROVIDENCE – A $5,000 grant from the HarborOne Bank Foundation will support The Providence Center’s COVID-19 emergency fund, an initiative created to respond to mental health needs caused by the pandemic.
According to The Providence Center, more than 850 children and adults are in psychiatric crisis as a result of the changes to daily life caused by the pandemic.

“Every day, there are people reaching out to our emergency services department who are frightened, stressed and at a crisis point,” according to a news release from the center. “Children who have never had mental health problems in the past are being treated for severe mental illness. The … [diagnoses] of children and adults in need of treatment range from anxiety to severe depression and, in some cases, people having thoughts of suicide.”
More than 60 programs are offered through The Providence Center, including mental health and substance use treatment, recovery, and counseling and family therapy.
