Stone Special Projects Group has completed the renovation and campus relocation of Providence Country Day School, a college-preparatory school in East Providence. The multi-phase renovations to the 73-year-old campus included the relocation of two buildings, construction of a new administrative facility and a field house addition.
Stone relocated two of the school’s facilities, the Metcalf and Chace buildings, which weighed over 600 tons. The two buildings were moved approximately 300 yards from their original sites and set on new foundations. The Chace building was converted into a full-service cafeteria with additional laboratory rooms located on the ground level. The two-level addition to the Metcalf building contains classrooms, science/computer rooms, an auditorium and a faculty lounge. This building, originally built in 1928, was one of the largest ever to be moved on the East Coast.

In addition to the building relocation, Stone constructed a new, two-story 5,800 square foot facility which houses administrative/support areas, conference rooms, and a main lobby. A 14,000 square foot field house was also added to the campus’ existing athletic facility. Stone constructed a masonry tower to connect the two buildings and to serve as the main entrance and trophy display area. The new field house includes a basketball court, wrestling rooms, weight rooms, women’s locker rooms and a storage area for athletic equipment.
