SMITHFIELD — Daniel J. Borgia has been appointed academic dean for Bryant University’s Zhuhai campus, the university announced Thursday.
Effective August 1, Borgia will oversee faculty and academic programs at the campus in China’s southern Guangdong province.

“After a successful first two years establishing this strategic location, we look forward to entering the next phase of growth under Borgia’s leadership,” said President Ronald K. Machtley in prepared remarks.
At the Richard J. Wehle School of Business at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York, Borgia recently held the position of dean and professor of finance. He also spent time at Nanjing University as a Fulbright Scholar and was the founding director of Florida Gulf Coast University’s Institute of Chinese Studies where he developed student exchange agreements, co-founded a nonprofit Chinese language school and became vice president of the Southwest Florida Chinese Association.
He received a bachelor’s degree in business management
from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, an MBA from Gannon University in Erie, Penn. and a Ph.D. in finance and international business from Kent State University.
“I am honored to be joining Bryant University at this exciting time and to help advance the Bryant Zhuhai program,” said Borgia in a statement. “I very much appreciate Bryant’s student-centered and innovative approach to education, and I look forward to creating opportunities for Bryant students from both the Zhuhai and Smithfield campuses to become successful leaders and innovators.”
Borgia succeeds David Lux who served as founding dean at Bryant’s Zhuhai campus and will now return to the Smithfield campus as a professor of history.
