ATTLEBORO – Sensata Technologies, which manufacturers sensors and controls for various markets, hosted the Partnerships Advancing STEM Education event, organized by the Southeastern Massachusetts STEM Network. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
The Feb. 28 event featured speakers Robert LePage, assistant secretary of career education, Massachusetts Executive Office of Education; Michael Tamasi, president and CEO, AccuRounds; Laura Douglas, president, Bristol Community College; and student Audrey Sears of Envision the Future and Sensata Mentoring Program. The event’s theme was “Educating for the Future, 2020 & Beyond.”

LePage delivered insights regarding the Commonwealth’s STEM priorities and initiatives, showing how all students can develop relevant STEM skills.
A panel discussion facilitated by Bridgewater State University President Fred Clark stressed the importance of successful business and education partnerships. Panelists shared how they focused their efforts on providing work-based learning opportunities for educators and students, spreading the word about college career pathways, and fostering interest in STEM fields among underrepresented student populations.
More than 20 exhibitors representing education, business, government and community organizations also took part.
