PROVIDENCE – Wednesday was the fist day that the 1,000 local census takers began going door to door to collect information from households that did not respond to the 2018 End-to-End Census Test that is being piloted in Providence County.
“It’s not too late to respond to the census test to avoid a follow-up visit; however, should a census taker contact you, we ask that you cooperate with them,” said Jeff Behler, director of the Census Bureau’s New York Regional Office, in a statement. “The Census Bureau protects your answers. It’s against the law for us to publicly release your responses in any way that could identify you or your household.”

Local officials have previously urged residents to complete the 2018 End-to-End Census Test, as the program is a testing ground for the preparedness of the upcoming 2020 Census. The test includes online responses and 10 questions. It is expected to take up to 10 minutes to complete.
