As an extra incentive for individuals to lead healthier lives, residents of the Mount Hope neighborhood in Providence can participate in the Summer Competition for free. This unique offer is part of Shape Up RI’s efforts to extend its outreach to communities with low participation levels.
This Summer, “Nutrition Tracking” and optional “Mini-Modules” are exciting features Shape Up RI is offering for the first time with its Summer campaign. Along with weight loss and pedometer steps, individuals can track daily intake of fruits and vegetables eaten during the competition. Participants will also be able to take part in optional stress reduction, sleep tracking, and stretching using optional 2-week mini-modules.
Shape Up RI, which has received generous support from its major sponsor Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Rhode Island, believes that it will continue to impact more and more lives each year. “The teamwork, group support, and atmosphere of friendly competition that have been the hallmarks of our success encourage us to project record numbers in terms of competitors, pounds lost, and steps taken toward good health,” stated Rajiv Kumar, Chairman and Founder of Shape Up RI.
Similar to the annual Spring Competition offered by Shape Up RI, participants will form teams of 5-11with friends, co-workers, or family members. Team members receive a digital pedometer, a logbook, and access to Shape Up RI’s robust online Team Tracker system, through which they can chart their progress. Participants also receive weekly newsletters and information via email containing useful tips, inspiration, and updates about dozens of free Shape Up RI events throughout the state.
