ATTLEBORO – Two Massachusetts health care groups are working together on a new approach to caring for people with substance use disorders.
Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro and Boston-based Column Health announced the collaboration Wednesday that will allow patients who seek treatment in Sturdy’s emergency room to immediately enroll in Column Health’s substance use disorder program held in a new treatment center in Attleboro.

The outpatient program has flexible hours, no waiting lists for addiction treatment and accepts patients covered by MassHealth.
Tours of the treatment center at 7B Railroad Ave. will be available at a ribbon cutting and open house scheduled for May 14 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The collaboration comes at a time when overdose victims are making repeated visits to the emergency room for help, Sturdy Memorial’s chief of emergency services and associate chief quality officer Dr. Brian Patel said.
“As a community hospital, we have seen the effects of the opioid crisis on our patients first hand,” he said in a statement. “Patients present time and again to the emergency department after an overdose, many of them looking for help with their addiction. And while we’ve developed numerous initiatives within the hospital to help address substance use disorder and reduce prescribing of opioids to patients, we recognize that in order to make an impact, we need to expand our efforts.”
