“These are indeed exciting times for the advanced manufacturing industry,” said University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Chancellor Jean MacCormack in a news release.
“While the federal and state governments are attempting to address the needs of manufacturers, this regional initiative is positioned to play a key role in demonstrating a scalable statewide model designed to increase the pool of technically degreed employees for the advanced manufacturing industry,” she said.
Louis Petrovic, director of the Advanced Technology and Manufacturing Center at UMass Dartmouth and host of the meeting, said that the consortium is the “first of several similar efforts in other regions of the state we hope to link through a virtual institute to provide an educational attainment strategy leading to career paths in the advanced manufacturing industry.”
