PROVIDENCE – Donald R. Sweitzer, now senior vice president for global business development and public affairs at GTECH Corp., will be promoted to chairman effective Jan. 1, the company announced today.
“We are delighted and fortunate to have recruited and retained a professional of Don’s caliber to serve as chairman of GTECH,” said Lorenzo Pellicioli, chairman and CEO of parent company Lottomatica Group S.p.A. “With a decade of experience at GTECH and more than 20 years of government affairs and consulting services to the company, Don is a world-class executive who will continue to be a great ambassador in our pursuit of global business opportunities and strategic partnerships.”
As GTECH’s chairman, Sweitzer will serve as the company’s ambassador to customers, potential business partners and government officials around the world. He also will continue to work closely with Pellicioli and GTECH President and CEO Jaymin B. Patel, advising them on government relations and business affairs, the companies said.
Before joining GTECH in 1998, as senior vice president of government relations, Sweitzer was president of public-affairs consulting firm Dorset Resource and Strategy Group. His career in politics and public affairs has included advising a number of candidates for state, national and congressional office.
He and his wife, Sheri, live in Warwick. They have four grown children and three grandchildren.
