Rhode Island Hospital opens new outpatient surgical center in city

PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island Hospital recently announced the opening of a new outpatient surgical center at 17 Seekonk St. in Wayland Square, expanding its current offerings of endoscopy procedures.
The hospital-owned center will provide all adult and pediatric endoscopy procedures, including upper endoscopy, colon cancer screening and colonoscopy; as well as outpatient surgery services for ophthalmology, plastic surgery, podiatry, gynecology and orthopedics, hospital officials said.
The new outpatient surgical center is the hospital’s response to the rapid growth in outpatient surgical procedures, according to Dr. William G. Cioffi, chief of surgery at Rhode Island Hospital. “This center will help Rhode Island Hospital to more effectively meet our patients’ needs, and provide high-quality surgical care for numerous disciplines in a comfortable, off-campus setting.”
Dr. Jack Wands, director of gastroenterology at Rhode Island Hospital, said that, “As the population ages, the use of endoscopic procedures for routine testing is increasing. We understand the importance of providing timely, convenient appointments. The opening of the Rhode Island Hospital Surgery Center at Wayland Square addresses this need, and provides expanded services for our patients.” &#8226
