PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – WLNE-TV/ABC6 is broadcasting all newscasts in high definition (HD). “We are extremely please to offer viewers of WLNE-TV/ABC6 a crisp, high quality picture and dramatically different sound,” stated Chris Tzianabos, Vice President and General Manager of WLNE-TV/ABC6. “Citadel Communications has made a major investment in upgrading the entire station to HD. The station went live in HD on September 13th with state of the art studio and field HD cameras, HD editing equipment and brand new HD master and studio control rooms. The HD conversion is part of the company’s commitment to better serve the southern New England community.”

For the HD launch the station logo was redesigned and newscasts re- formatted “We are bringing southern New England a whole new view of local news,” said Irene Mahoney-Paige, News Director at WLNE-TV/ABC6. “With clean bold graphics, 7 HD field cameras, a dedicated team of journalists in the studio and in the field, and more news with less commercial interruptions, if you haven’t watched ABC6 News lately, you should take a look!”

In addition, WLNE-TV/ABC6 Stormtracker Weather team has up- graded their weather presentation. According to WLNE-TV/ABC6 Chef Meteorologist Fred Campagna, “Our new high definition Weather Central computers provide us with the latest, cutting-edge forecasting and graphics technology, allowing us to deliver a forecast that is more accurate, concise, and viewer friendly.”

To convert to HD, the station installed Video Technics Apella HD playback servers for commercials and news, 360 Systems Maxx HD playback for local and syndicated programming, Adobe Premiere editing systems, JVC HD field cameras with solid state memory, Panasonic robotic studio cameras, a Broadcast Pix production switcher, a Harris Iconmaster master control switcher and portable in the field live HD broadcasting through TVU Networks backpack.
