After two decades in primary care, nurse practitioner Jennifer Walter has downsized in Cumberland.
The founder and director of Renewed Health LLC, a boutique clinic opened in September on Diamond Hill Road, used to see more than 20 patients a day.
When sick or unhealthy patients are constantly battling symptoms, it leaves little time for the bigger picture.
“I wanted more time to spend with patients to help educate them,” Walter said, “and focus more on lifestyle and behavioral changes instead of just continually prescribing another medication.”
Renewed Health is focused on helping clients age well. Walter uses bioidentical hormone replacement therapy to tackle hormone imbalances that can cause health problems. The clinic also offers intravenous hydration therapy to supplement the vitamins and minerals that many people lack.
Renewed Health is a membership program, forgoing the traditional model that relies on billable office hours and filling new prescriptions.
But Walter still sees value in traditional health care.
“It’s a comprehensive and holistic approach,” she said. “Western medicine is still extraordinarily important in acute and emergency care.”
