PROVIDENCE – Reversing a downward trend, prices of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline jumped 3 cents in Rhode Island and Massachusetts this week, AAA Northeast said.
Self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island is averaging $2.18, and in Massachusetts, it is averaging $2.10.
In Rhode Island, prices still are 4 cents lower than a month ago, and 5 cents less than the national average. A year ago at this time, Rhode Island’s average price was $3.02.
“Oil prices moved higher earlier last week due to reports of supply disruptions in a few oil-producing countries,” Lloyd Albert, senior vice president of public and government affairs for AAA Northeast, said in a statement. “While prices can have short-term ups and downs, we believe that the strong supply of global oil will keep prices low as travelers prepare for the busy Thanksgiving travel weekend.”
Prices range from $2.05 to $2.27, with midgrade unleaded averaging $2.47; premium unleaded, $2.63; and diesel, $2.52.
In Massachusetts, prices range from $1.94 to $2.49, with midgrade unleaded at $2.42; premium unleaded, $2.62; and diesel, $2.53. Massachusetts’ average gasoline price is 2 cents less than a month ago. A year ago, the price was 87 cents higher at $2.97.
AAA suggested that drivers watch air pressure in their tires as temperatures drop. To maximize fuel economy, check and adjust tire pressure once per month, AAA said.
