PROVIDENCE – AAA has named COAST in the Ocean House in Westerly as a Five Diamond restaurant, AAA Northeast announced Thursday.
In writing about COAST, AAA’s inspector stated, “Located within a stately seaside inn with dramatic views of the ocean, this restaurant prides itself on using local Rhode Island and Atlantic Coast farm-to-table ingredients. The menu changes daily to incorporate the freshest items from local farmers and fishmongers.”

This is the first time the restaurant earned the highest honor from AAA, being honored as a Four Diamond restaurant last year. Ocean House was also the only hotel in the state to get a Five Diamond distinction.
AAA also announced four Rhode Island restaurants as AAA Four Diamond recipients:
- Cara – Newport
- The Dining Room at Castle Hill Inn – Newport
- Gracie’s – Providence
- The Vanderbilt Grill – Newport
“The Five and Four Diamond ratings are impressive accomplishments that recognize the finest in dining in the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean,” stated Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast senior vice president of public and government affairs.
The Four Diamond rating is the second-highest honor designated by AAA, only to the Five Diamond distinction. This year, 656 properties in North America were deemed Four Diamond restaurants, while only 67 were named Five Diamond restaurants. This year, AAA considered more than 30,000 restaurants.
