PROVIDENCE – “Record crude oil prices, last week exceeding $96 per barrel, have put tremendous pressure on retail gasoline prices,” AAA Southern New England said in a report today. “Nationally, the average price of gasoline has reached $3 per gallon, and while Rhode Island isn’t quite there yet, an 18-cent jump in just one week has motorists locally paying the highest prices ever seen in the month of November.
“All grades of self- and full-service fuel saw a double-digit increase in this week’s AAA survey,” the auto club added.
AAA’s Nov. 5 survey of gasoline prices at Rhode Island stations found the average self-serve price for regular unleaded gas rose for the third consecutive week, to $2.949 per gallon, 18 cents higher than the average price a week ago and 77 cents higher than a year ago.
Nationwide, AAA found, the average self-serve price for unleaded regular rose 12 cents per gallon to $3.019, or 6 cents per gallon more than in the Ocean State.
Locally this week, the range in prices for self-serve regular was 14 cents, from $2.879 to $3.019. The nonprofit auto club reported wider ranges for other grades of fuel, which had average self-serve prices of $3.069 for midgrade unleaded, $3.179 for premium unleaded and $3.339 for diesel.
