Admiral Packaging finishes $10M project

PROVIDENCE – Admiral Packaging Inc., the century-old flexible-packaging manufacturer, recently installed a new high-tech printing press, completing a $10 million round of investment in new technology and equipment financed by Bank Rhode Island.

The new machine is an eight-color, 52-inch flexographic Miraflex press made by Lincoln-based Windmoeller & Hoelscher Corp., a subsidiary of the German manufacturer Windmöller & Hölscher. It is the eighth press Admiral has purchased from the Lincoln firm.

“We believe it’s critical to stay ahead of technology,” Harley Frank, Admiral’s president and the fourth generation of his family to run the business, said in a statement. “We’ve steadily and systematically invested in new technology, particularly over the last two years. As a result, we’ve been able to deliver a superior quality product in a shorter period of time.”

In addition to the new Miraflex press, Admiral also bought a high-speed solvent-free laminator from Italy’s Nordmeccanica Group and two new high-speed slitter and rewinder machines from Ashe Converting Equipment Ltd in the U.K. And the company upgraded its pre-press technology from analog to digital with the purchase of an Esko laser engraver.
