‘Flood Recovery Fund Telethon’ airs tonight from 4 to 11:30 p.m.
PROVIDENCE (April 16, 2010) – Amica Insurance announced today that it will match all donations dollar-for-dollar up to $10,000 during the R.I. Broadcasters Association’s telethon tonight (4/16) to support the R.I. Flood Recovery Fund (RIFRF).

Every radio and television station in Southern New England is planning to participate in the telethon, which will air from 4 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. During regularly scheduled programming, area TV and radio stations will interrupt their shows for short moments with over-the-air cut-ins of interviews and newscasts that encourage donations to the Flood Recovery Fund. Also during TV and radio shows, “crawls” along the bottom of TV screens will instruct viewers on how they can give to RIFRF. Amica’s planned telethon donation will take place between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.
“Our hearts go out to our friends and neighbors across the region whose homes and businesses were devastated by flood waters in late March,” said Robert A. DiMuccio, chairman, president and CEO of Amica Insurance. “In the past two weeks the generosity of our fellow Rhode Islanders to our neighbors has been extraordinary. Our match to your contributions is meant to honor the generosity of donors and the determination of flood victims to rebuild their lives.”
The dollars raised during the R.I. Flood Recovery Fund Telethon will be used to help cover expenses incurred from the flooding that have been unmet by federal and private resources. One hundred percent of the contributions made to the RIFRF, which is being administered by United Way of Rhode Island (UWRI), will go back into the community.
“Amica’s very generous gift, which comes attached to a dollar-for-dollar match, arrives at a time when many Rhode Islanders are still struggling to recover from the massive flooding in our state.” said UWRI President and CEO, Anthony Maione. “This generosity is especially notable because it occurs after Amica already made a $35,000 donation to the R.I. Flood Recovery Fund.”
An independent committee of community leaders will determine how the RIFRF money will be distributed. Rhode Island organizations (such as community action agencies), who assist individuals directly, will take charge of disbursing the funds.
