LINCOLN – Amica Mutual Insurance Co. topped J.D. Power and Associates’ 2017 “Overall Customer Satisfaction Index Ranking” for United States home insurers for the 16th consecutive year, the company announced Thursday.

“It’s an honor to once again be recognized by J.D. Power for all of our hard work,” said Robert A. DiMuccio, chairman, president and CEO of Amica. “This award belongs to all of our employees – they earn it with each helpful interaction they have with our customers.”

Amica’s score of 866 on a 1,000 point scale is 58 points higher than the national average of 808 and 2 points higher than Amica’s score in 2016.

Shelter Mutual Insurance Co. ranked No. 2 in the study (850), followed by Country Mutual Insurance Co. (839).

USAA scored the highest in the study (892), but is not included in the rankings as it is only open to U.S. military personnel and their families.

“Although property insurers have made great strides in overall customer satisfaction over the past several years, the areas where they consistently see the lowest satisfaction scores are price and direct customer service,” said Greg Hoeg, vice president of U.S. insurance operations at J.D. Power. “Those two areas in particular will be under enormous stress as insurers address losses from the recent hurricanes.”

This year’s rankings were based on responses from 15,909 online interviews conducted between June and July 2017.
