September 7, 2010 [PROVIDENCE] Anthony Gemma, candidate for the Democratic nomination for Congress from Rhode Island’s First District, today released the first in a series of radio and television ads that succinctly offer factual, in-context evaluations of David Cicilline’s seven-year tenure as mayor of Providence.
“David Cicilline has told us that he is running on his record,” said Gemma. “Accordingly, I am presenting the truth about that record, absent the distortions and outright lies that my opponent offers in place of the truth.”

Gemma added, “Presenting the facts is not a ‘negative act.’ It’s simply the act of telling the truth. And when David Cicilline does not tell us the truth, then that act becomes very ‘positive’ indeed.
The “Are You Kidding Me?” ad campaign takes its name from the tag line question asked by the narrator who has just presented key elements of the record on which Cicilline is running.
“To begin, we’re focusing on the economic ruin that David Cicilline has visited upon Providence,” Gemma explained. “Cicilline boasts about creating jobs when his city is suffering through a 14% unemployment rate and there are a million-and-a-half square feet of vacant office space downtown. We note that his economic failings took place before the recession. And now Cicilline, who wants to do to Rhode Island what he’s done to Providence, tells us that he’s running on his record.
