ARRA funding to bolster Rhode Island waterworks

PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island will get $45.8 million in funding and financing for infrastructure projects intended to ensure clean water and safe drinking water in Rhode Island.
The money will come through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), Gov. Donald L. Carcieri’s office announced last week. Carcieri joined representatives from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the R.I. Department of Health, the R.I. Department of Environmental Management and the R.I. Clean Water Financing Agency at a press conference announcing the money.
The Clean Water Finance Agency received $26.3 million for clean water and $19.5 million for drinking water projects. In a news release, Anthony B. Simeone, executive director of the agency, said the ARRA money will be combined with other agency funds.” &#8226
