PROVIDENCE – In an effort to better government transparency, General Assembly began publishing legislators’ votes online as of Jan. 4
The floor votes of the House and the Senate appear on the General Assembly’s website under the “Legislation” section and “Floor votes.”
“This is a major victory for citizen taxpayers and businesses, as well as for the state’s largest taxpayer advocacy organization,” said Harriet Lloyd of the Rhode Island Statewide Coalition.
“[The Rhode Island Statewide Coalition] will now be able to create electronic ‘scorecards’ for each legislator on critical issues,” she said. “By 2012, voters will have solid and reliable information with which to compare candidates and select those who have earned their support.”
