Food Bank receives $25,000 donation from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation to help alleviate hunger in Rhode Island
PROVIDENCE – Recently, volunteers from Bank of America’s Lincoln, Rhode Island call center donated more than 5,000 pounds of food collected for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank’s 2011 summer food drive. Food Bank staff visited the call center to load the food onto trucks, marking the first stop on the Food Bank’s journey to encouraging local businesses, community groups and individuals to donate food or funds to ensure the agency has adequate supplies to meet the growing.

The Bank of America Charitable Foundation also awarded $25,000 to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank as part of its commitment to supporting the non-profit agency’s efforts to alleviate hunger across Rhode Island.
Summer can be a difficult time because the need for food support is high. Children on vacation do not have access to the federally-funded School Breakfast and Lunch Programs that help thousands during the academic year. For many low-income families, this puts an extra strain on already-limited food budgets.
The public can get involved in the Food Bank’s Summer Food Drive by making a donation or by organizing a food drive in the workplace or neighborhood. The Food Bank can provide posters and collection boxes to help you get started. Donations may be brought to the Food Bank at 200 Niantic Avenue in Providence, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. This summer’s most needed food items include peanut butter, jelly or jam, canned tuna fish, soups & stews, rice, canned chili, canned fruits & vegetables, pasta, tomato sauce, macaroni & cheese and cereal.

The Rhode Island Community Food Bank is a non-profit organization located in Providence, RI. The Food Bank solicits stores and distributes food products donated by supermarkets, wholesalers, food processors, local farmers and community food drives.
