BankNewport recently collected more than three-quarters of a ton of food during its summer food drive to support the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. From July 19 through August 27, all BankNewport branch offices served as collection locations for the drive. The donations of nonperishable foods such as canned meat, soups, fruit and vegetables along with rice, cereals and peanut butter totaled 1,626 pounds.
“Many of our neighbors are struggling to put food on the table for their families,” said Andrew Schiff, CEO, Rhode Island Community Food Bank. “The continued support of BankNewport, and the generosity of its staff and customers, will have a positive impact on the lives of the more than 50,000 Rhode Islanders that seek help each month through the Food Bank’s network of emergency food pantries.”
The Rhode Island Community Food Bank, located in Providence, solicits and stores food products, and then distributed the food to those in need through a network of 300 member-agency programs. •
