Bank Rhode Island recently made a $10,000 donation to the Rhode Island Free Clinic, which is based in Providence. The funds will be used for the clinic’s recently expanded third floor space in the Hindle Memorial Medical Building, and will enable clinic staff to serve a greater number of uninsured adults in need of medical services.
“We wanted to help,” said Merrill Sherman, president and CEO of BankRI. “We’re pleased to support the clinic’s mission to provide high-quality medical care and preventive health services to community members in need.”
Lisa Smolski, executive director of Rhode Island Free Clinic said, “BankRI’s generous donation of $10,000 is reflective of its commitment to the well-being of this community. This is a bank that is playing an important role in keeping community members healthy so they can be productive members of their families and neighborhoods.”
According to the U.S. Census, Rhode Island has the fastest growing rate of uninsured adults in New England. The Rhode Island Free Clinic is the only free health clinic in the state available to the uninsured.
