PAWTUCKET – Barrington High School students Shiyuan Huang and Ariadne Dulchinos won the Congressional App Challenge, hosted by Rep. David N. Cicilline, D-R.I. The students designed and built an educational gaming app called EarthSmart.

“Their app is not only an impressive demonstration of their coding capabilities, but its focus on educating the public about recycling, composting and energy saving exemplifies the unique capabilities of STEM technology to make a difference in our state,” said Cicilline.

The congressman presented the students with State House citations during their AP Computer Science class and spoke to the class about the economic importance of computer science.

The Congressional App Challenge is coordinated by the Congressional Internet Caucus and the Internet Education Foundation. It challenges U.S. high school students to learn how to code by creating their own applications, highlighting the importance of STEM skills, or science, technology, engineering and math.
