Chances are that anyone who steps off the Block Island Ferry will be greeted with the vibrant colors of Blocksicle’s frozen treats.
Located within the Inn at Old Harbor in New Shoreham, Blocksicle LLC is an ice-pop shop serving up unique flavors. From blood orange raspberry to salted caramel and grape, Blocksicle’s flavors are constantly changing, said owner Bobby Welch.
Welch and his partner, Emma Andy, were inspired to open the shop after traveling to Ecuador and Puerto Rico last year, where Welch said ice pops are very popular.
“We found ourselves eating a popsicle every single day, multiple times a day,” Welch said. “We felt it was a great thing that Block Island would really benefit from and bring a new type of dessert to the island to get away from the typical ice cream.”
Currently, the plan is to operate Blocksicle, which opened in June, during the summertime on Block Island with hopes to open a year-round location on the mainland.
Welch described creating flavors as a “mad science,” as the pair is always innovating, but at the core of each creation is a focus on freshness and quality ingredients.
