PROVIDENCE – The R.I. Board of Elections’ website saw a 25.01 percent increase in unique visitors on Election Day, which was Nov. 2, compared with Nov. 2, 2008.
On Nov. 2, 18,968 people used the board’s website to find out the results as compared with 15,173 visitors two years earlier, according to information compiled by Thomas Viall, general manager at RI.gov, for Providence Business News.
Most of the visitors came from Rhode Island (15,832), but visitors also came from Massachusetts (2,035), New York (1,766) and Connecticut (481).
There were 419 visitors from California interested in Rhode Island’s election results; 456 came from Florida, 297 from Virginia, 185 from Texas and 171 from the District of Columbia.
Visitors stayed on the BOE’s page longer in 2010, averaging 20:52 minutes, up 193.36 percent from 2008, when there was no gubernatorial election, and had 68.32 percent more page views. The bounce rate slipped 6.15 percent to 24.58 percent.
When compared to an average day, the number of unique visitors grew 150.47 percent from 7,573 in 2008 for Rhode Island’s primary elections on Sept. 14. The time each user spent on the site also jumped 81.3 percent to 11 minutes, 31 seconds.
Users with dialup connections tumbled 49.97 percent to 1.50 percent from 2.99 percent in 2008, while those with cable grew 3.16 percent to 58.0 percent. •
