Bracelets raise funds for hospice care

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – South County Hospital’s gift shop is now selling “Hearts and Hands for Hospice” bracelets made by the Wickford artist Elaine Porter Claire in its gift shop, with a third of the sales proceeds to benefit Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island.
The bracelets are made of semi-precious stones, Swarovski crystals, hand-blown glass beads and sterling silver charms, and each is unique. They are handmade by Claire, who is charging $29 for each.
Claire started a nonprofit, Hearts and Hands for Hospice, after her father’s illness last June. She said she was moved by the quality of the care that Home & Hospice had provided to him and her family, and she wanted to support the organization. She chose to sell the bracelets at South County Hospital because it has two designated hospice rooms.
The bracelets and the fundraising are “a labor of love,” Claire said in a news release, “and I’m having fun doing it.”
