Broadview Networks opens city office

PROVIDENCE – Broadview Networks, a New York company that provides telephone and data services to business customers in the Northeast and mid-Atlantic, opened an office in downtown Providence today.

Mayor David N. Cicilline was scheduled to be on hand, along with company executives, for a ribbon-cutting at Broadview’s new office at 275 Westminster St., which will house the firm’s local sales staff and a demonstration facility for OfficeSuite, its flagship product.

“Broadview’s expansion downtown is a good indicator that Providence is a great place to do business, even during these challenging economic times,” Cicilline said in a statement.

“The business community is always pleased to see more service providers enter the market as it fuels competition and that is almost always better for local businesses,” the mayor added.

Broadview says it plans to seek new customers for OfficeSuite, which transmit communications and information through the company’s private IP network. OfficeSuite includes local and long-distance calling plans and Internet access, and can also include multiple business sites.

“We are strategically investing in Providence because we feel businesses in the area can immediately benefit from the services we offer,” Brian Crotty, Broadview’s chief operating officer, said in a statement. “In any economy, small and medium-sized businesses need to find ways to enhance their operations to better compete.”

Broadview lost money in each of the past four years, although its net loss narrowed to $42.9 million in 2008, compared with $65.5 million in 2007. It is owned by MCG Capital Corp. (Nasdaq: MCGC), an Arlington, Va.-based firm that owns and finances more than a dozen middle-market companies in the U.S.

Broadview Networks Holdings Inc. is a telecommunications company that sells voice and data services to small and medium-sized businesses in 20 markets throughout the Northeast and mid-Atlantic. Additional information is available at BroadviewNet.com.
