Business Excellence Awards nominees wanted

Providence Business News is now accepting nominations and applications for its eighth annual Business Excellence Awards. The application deadline has been extended to Wednesday, Oct. 8.
The competition recognizes excellence in business practices, community involvement and individual achievement with awards in six categories: Business Leadership; Business Excellence for companies with more than 100 employees; Business Excellence for companies with fewer than 100 employees; Excellence in a Nonprofit Organization; Entrepreneurship; and Community Involvement.

The 2007 BEA winners were:

• Paul J. Choquette Jr., chairman of Gilbane Inc. (Business Leadership).

• Lifespan (Business Excellence, more than 100 employees).

• Vibco (Business Excellence, fewer than 100 employees).

• St. Mary’s Home for Children (Excellence in a Nonprofit Organization).

• Johnson & Wales University (Community Involvement).

• SolarWrights (Entrepreneur).

Winners in previous years have include Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island, The Washington Trust Co., Women & Infants Hospital and FM Global, among others.

The competition is open to all companies operating in Rhode Island and Bristol County, Mass.; companies may enter multiple award categories, if applicable. Winners will be honored in November with an awards dinner and a PBN special section.

Presenting sponsor of the 2008 BEA competition is Bank Rhode Island. Partner sponsors this year include AARP Rhode Island, Cox Business, Lefkowitz, Garfinkel, Champi & DeRienzo PC, Partridge Snow & Hahn LLP and USI Insurance.
