Carcieri names NUWC veteran to CRMC

PROVIDENCE – Gov. Donald L. Carcieri has named Donald T. Gomez of Little Compton to the Coastal Resource Management Commission (CRMC). He replaces Jerry Sahagian, whose term expired on Jan. 31, 2006. No Senate confirmation is required.
“Don Gomez will make a great addition to the Coastal Resources Management Council,” Carcieri said. “As a former Town Council president and zoning board member, he understands how to work with other members to get things done. His experience as a town official has also provided him with a background in land use management. And as an engineer at one of the U.S. Navy’s most prestigious development facilities, he has a background in underwater research.”
Under state law (§ 46-23-2), this seat on the CRMC must go to an elected official from a coastal community with a population of less than 25,000.
Gomez – who retired from the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in 1996, as a division head, after a 32-year career at the center – is currently a member of the Little Compton School Committee. He previously has served as president of the Town Council, and as a member of the Planning Board, the Zoning Board of Review, the Charter Review Commission and the Little Compton Municipal Trust.
