NEWPORT – The historic Castle Hill Inn has planned a phased reopening for next month following the two-alarm fire that damaged the property on Feb. 5. In a Facebook post Tuesday, the landmark waterfront inn announced that it will welcome guests for overnight stays in the property’s beach houses and beach cottages on March 5. Food service will be provided from the Chalet – one of accommodation buildings on the property – until the main bujilding reopens “later in the spring,” according to the Facebook post. The boutique spa, The Retreat at the Castle Hill by Farmaesthetics, will also relocate to the upper level for the Chalet. All weddings will proceed as planned as event spaces are separate, but adjacent to the main inn and are fully supported by the Chalet kitchen. The goal is to reopen in the inn’s restaurants and bars by Memorial Day, according to the Facebook post. The inn is owned by Newport Restaurant Group. Updates and reopening of the rooms and suites in centerpiece Agassiz Manson will be shared in the coming weeks, the inn said. The cause of the fire has been deemed accidental by the state marshal's office due the operation of a wood-burning fireplace. Firefighters were called to the hotel on Ocean Drive around 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 5, where they found smoke and flames coming from the roof at the rear of the main building. A second alarm went off shortly after 10 p.m., and the fire was brought under control around midnight, according to officials. When crews responded, they determined that the fire originated at the north end of the building on the third floor, Newport Fire Chief Harp Donnelly told WJAR-TV NBC 10. No injuries were reported. The extent of the damage remains unclear, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Staff have been temporarily placed at other Newport Restaurant Group properties, according to Tuesday’s Facebook post.
