PROVIDENCE – By executive order, Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee has declared the last Sunday in July “Bay Day” in Rhode Island.
Executive Order 12-04, which was signed on Thursday, says that all state beaches will be open to the public free of charge on July 29.

“We Rhode Islanders are fortunate to live among the natural beauty of our state’s world-renowned beaches,” said Chafee in an email to Providence Business news.
“Bay Day will give Rhode Islanders a terrific opportunity to get out and spend time with family and friends in some of these unique and special settings – free of charge,” he added.
According to Christian Vareika, the governor’s deputy communications officer, the executive order is only applicable to the 2012 season.
