Chafee names Licht as administration head

PROVIDENCE – Gov.-elect Lincoln D. Chafee has tapped former Lt. Gov. Richard Licht to serve as director of the R.I. Department of Administration.
The appointment – Chafee’s first cabinet selection – is subject to approval by the R.I. Senate next month.
Licht, currently an attorney with the law firm of Adler Pollock Sheehan in Providence, is also a former state senator, and former chairman of the R.I. Board of Governors for Higher Education.
Chafee, in prepared remarks, praised Licht for his “extensive experience, drive and ability to think innovatively about government.
“Richard Licht is a proven and trusted leader who shares my vision of a state government that will be more efficient, less costly and more accessible,” Chafee said last week.
Licht, a Providence native, is a graduate of the Moses Brown School, and earned an A.B. in economics from Harvard College, a J.D. from Harvard Law School, and an LL.M. in taxation from the Boston University School of Law. &#8226
