NORTH ATTLEBORO – The North Attleborough & Plainville Chamber of Commerce today announced the winners of its 2008 Business of the Year and Good Neighbor Awards, who will be honored Jan. 25 as the Chamber celebrates its 50th year with a banquet at Highland Country Club in Attleboro.
This year’s top honorees are:
• Business of the Year: Achin’s Garage, 321 Washington St., North Attleboro.
Founded in 1919 by Henry Achin as a repair shop and auto dealership, it now is run by third- and fourth-generation proprietors Donald Achin Jr. and Sarah Achin. In the 1980s, the garage expanded its services to include towing and roadside service.
Today, Achin’s has a fleet of 13 service vehicles and a staff of more than 20; it has contracts with the North Attleboro Police Department and the Mass. State Police; and it is a Preferred Service Provider for AAA in North Attleboro, Plainville, Attleboro, South Attleboro, Mansfield and Norton.
The garage was honored last year by AAA with the Service Provider of Excellence Silver Award for the Northeast region. “The owners of Achin’s Garage are committed to making the surrounding communities a better place for all residents for the years to come,” the Chamber said.
• Good Neighbor Award: Thomas H. Secky Insurance Agency, South Street, Plainville.
“Thomas Secky, president of the agency, feels very strongly about helping the community,” the Chamber said. Secky Insurance has been serving the local area for nearly 30 years, providing support to the local police and fire departments, the Mass. State Police and many local and national nonprofit organizations.
The agency “is especially proud” of King Phillip Girls’ Soccer Team Car Wash it hosted this September, at which the girls raised $600 in tips and the agency donated another $500, giving the team $1,000 for the day. It also supports the Plainville Athletic League, the Attleboro Special Olympics, The Attleboro Food Pantry, The MSPCA, The ASPCA, the Cancer Association, the Heart Association, The National Autism Association and Toys for Tots, among others.
They and other awards recipients will be honored during the Chamber’s 50th Annual Meeting & Recognition Event, an evening-long celebration at Highland Country Club. Cocktails, appetizers and a silent auction at 6 p.m. will be followed by dinner, the awards presentations, a D.J. and dancing. The cost is $50 per person.
