PROVIDENCE – Cherrystone Angel Group, which recently organized as Rhode Island’s first formal angel investment group, announced the launch of its Web site in late March.
The site, which can be accessed at www.cherrystoneangelgroup.com, details the types of emerging companies in which the group is looking to invest, as well as the investment process itself and an application form. Since the group’s formation in January, four local companies have made presentations.

“Angel groups like ours provide the seed capital that very young companies need to develop their business concept or product to help them grow to the point where they can seek other forms of institutional capital, such as venture funding,” said Garrett B. Hunter, secretary-treasurer of the angel group.
Applicants seeking funding may apply at any time. The group meets every other month to hear select presentations that seek to address a significant market opportunity.
RITEC’s Grrl Tech IV to be held next week
PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island Technology Council will hold its Grrl Tech Interactive Technology Expo next Friday, April 23, at the New England Institute of Technology on Post Road in Warwick. The free, interactive expo is designed for sophomore and junior female high school students and their teachers.
The day will begin at 9 a.m. with keynote speaker Tonya Robichaud, COO of Woonsocket’s Mediaweave, a business communications media company. The technology institute, Region One School to Career and the i.d. Group are sponsoring the event to inform female students of the opportunities in the fields of science and high-technology.
“The event endeavors to ensure that girls have an equal opportunity to learn about careers in technology from a positive vantage point as well as raise the awareness of teachers in implementing gender equity in the education,” said JoAnn Johnson, manager of education partnerships at RITEC.
